As a matter of facts, a few days ago a scandal hit the Lonely Planet, the famous publishing house that prints tour guides. One of its authors, Thomas Kohnstamm, did indeed admit that the guide for Columbia had been written without visiting Colombia at any time and he excused that because of  the short economic resources that Lonely Planet itself placed at his disposal for the drawing up of it.

Such news bore out the opinion of tour operators, already in search of a new way of dealing with their business, who decided to start using Second Life as a means of spreading tourism news and information.

Second Life and publishing

Evelyn Magazine

L’editoria guarda con interesse verso Second Life cercando di cogliere i vantaggi che da essa possono derivare.

La New Links, azienda leader nel settore editoriale, ha infatti sperimentato la versatilità della realtà virtuale per il lancio di un nuovo progetto rivolto alle giovanissime: Evelyn Magazine.

Il primo numero di questo nuovo magazine propone, come tanti altri del suo genere, diverse sezioni dedicate al mondo di Evelyn con giochi, letture e molto altro ancora; una in particolare ha però colpito la nostra attenzione: la sezione Evelyn Story.

Quest’ultima infatti, è stata realizzate interamente in Second Life. Partendo infatti, dalla costruzione sia delle ambientazioni scenografiche e della creazione del personaggio Evelyn in qualità di avatar, si è arrivati alla realizzazione una piccola storia a fumetti utilizzando le foto scattate inworld.

Il risultato di tale lavoro, riportato per intero nelle pagine successive del nostro magazine, ha ottenuto un notevole riscontro positivo, tale da giustificare seriamente che questo possa essere un altro metodo di utilizzo della piattaforma di Second Life nella produzione di prodotti per la real life; non ci stupirebbe osservare infatti in futuro la realizzazione di altri progetti come Evelyn Magazine e magari anche in formato audiovisivo.
